a dynamic, hands-on
programme that puts the
fun back into phonics!
An exciting day for our reception class on Friday as a parcel and teeny tiny letter (filled with glitter!) arrived from Felicity the phoneme fairy! Inside the parcel was a Song of Sounds songbook and CD for each child to take home and also a special test to see how they are getting on their phonics! As part of our assessment week, we carried out this one-to-one assessment with each child and we are SO thrilled with their progress! ♀
Our reception class enjoyed another visit from Croc this week. He can only talk in 'Croc talk' but they helped him learn to read by showing him how to blend sounds together! We also played some games to practise all the GPCs we have learnt so far!
The stumbling block for the phonics screening test is often that the children try to self-correct the nonsense words! In Song of Sounds we practise reading nonsense words prior to the test so that this is not an unfamiliar process for them! This week our year 2 class had a visit from an alien who introduced us to some words from his language which of course were nonsense! The children thought his words were so funny to read!
